Project Reflection

We started of by meeting the client for the first time, we received a thorough knowledge of the challenge at hand: bridging the engagement gap between in-person and online students in a hybrid learning environment. Afterwards, we came up with a Gathertown-inspired virtual classroom solution through brainstorming, which we then turned into a prototype and storyboard. A second visit with the customer, however, showed that there was a disconnect because our approach seemed more appropriate for team meetings than for educational settings. Unfazed, we improved the prototype to accurately imitate hybrid classes by adding interactive aspects and tools like the flipped classroom model and Kahoot!. We entered an empirical phase after this iteration to evaluate the effectiveness of our hybrid approach. As we look back on the path, we can see that a thorough understanding of the initial issue, along with meticulous research and adaptive creativity, allowed us to successfully navigate this challenging process and produce a valuable and applicable prototype.

Cilent Meeting
Understanding Problem & Requirement Gathering

Through the meeting we understood the participant disparity when it comes to hybrid sessions. There are a few considerations such as technical infrastructure, content stucture, cost and etc.

Brain Storming
Brainstorming

In our brainstorming proces we had a structured model.

  1. Define the problem: "Lack of engagement between roomies and zoomies"
  2. Set clear constrains. For example: "It has to be a hybrid lesson structure"
  3. Generating Ideas. We each researched on 2 tools that can improve engagement in hybrid lesson set-up
  4. Narrow Down. Review the list of ideas and identify those with the most potential.
  5. Select the Best Solutions. Through discussion and evaluation we choose the most promising solution.

Prototype Development
Low-Fi Prototype

Storyboard is created to illustrate how the prototype will function and we created a lowfi prototype.

2nd Cilent Meeting
Feedback on the Prototype

Adjustments needs to be made as first prototype is tailored towards team meetings and not for educational purposes

Prototype Refining
Role-Playing Prototype

Identify features that are not yet implemented and add tools that can improve the current hybrid lessons with a comprehenssive guide

Experimental Phase
Comparison

We tested 4 differenet hybrid lesson evironment:

  1. Traditional Zoom Session
  2. FlipGrid Session
  3. Mentimeter Session
  4. Padlet Session
  5. Integrated Solution

Our Works

What we have presented in this design & thinking process.

Weekly Pitch Video #1

In this video, we explained what was learned from users and from prototyping this week. The main focus was on requirements gathering, understanding the problem statement, and the first role-playing prototype done by the team.

Weekly Pitch Video #2

In this video, we focused on the proposed solution/methodology along with a improved roleplay prototype which involved real participants.

Exhibition Poster

Another product where design & thinking process is applied to it’s fullest potential. What makes a poster stand out as compared to others? This was the direction the team is targeting towards to, and received great comments from viewers. Great sense of satisfaction!
