The Annexe Communities, based in Partick, Glasgow, is a community-led development trust that focuses on improving the wellbeing and reducing the health inequalities within the community. Through collaboration with local residents, Annexe Communities develops and implements a diverse range of activity programs and services, including a community cafe, art groups, music groups, and more. As part of our design project module in our Overseas Immersion Programme (OIP), our team will be focusing on developing an accessible and interactive archival system that aims to share the various conducted events with the public. By capturing the essence of these events, we aim to not only preserve precious memories but also highlight the positive impacts it has on individual lives.
This website reflects our journey in developing a solution for Annexe Communities and showcases our collective thought processes and design decisions as a team. We hope that exploring this website will provide a deeper understanding of our experience throughout the development process and hopefully inspire more people to actively support the initiatives made by Annexe communities.
Annexe Communities faces challenges in effectively documenting and sharing their activities and narratives. The organization's funding model and extensive range of initiatives make it difficult to find resources for comprehensive documentation by the staff. Moreover, the demographics at Annexe Communities, primarily consisting of individuals aged 60 and above, add an additional layer of complexity. Considering the varying levels of digital literacy among members, elderly individuals may face difficulties in accessing and navigating digital tools when viewing the documented activities. Factors such as poorer eyesight and limited hand-eye coordination can further compound these challenges. As a result, providing accessible and user-friendly digital platforms for the elderly members to engage with the documented events becomes crucial.
Introducing our solution: The Annexe Communities Archive, a carefully crafted solution tailored to serve as an accessible and user-friendly webpage that encompasses both past and current activities of The Annexe. The main goal is to offer visitors a glimpse into The Annexe's rich history, events and achievements while focusing on user-friendliness to ensure that every visitor, regardless of their digital proficiency, can effortlessly explore the webpage's offerings. The webpage also allows visitors to easily view and sign up for classes and find contact information when they need assistance. Through this platform, our team also seeks to bridge the generations through technology that resonates with today's tech-savvy audience, fostering connections between the young and old as they engage, share experiences, and celebrate a shared identity.
