Annexe Communities Stewartville Street, Partick, hosts a Knit and natter group that meet every Mondays 2pm-4pm, They have been knitting and nattering now for just over 4 years and have hand knitted with love packages of knitted goodies that have been sent out not just locally but to the 7 continents of the world with their wooly world domination mission! They have kindly sent out their knitting, for examples, to war torn Syria-Europe, Social work department for families in New Mexico-South America, an orphanage in Peru- North America, Special needs children in Tanzania- Africa, earthquake survivors in Nepal- Asia, group of women artists in Australia -Australasia and last but by no means least “Operation Penguin” in Antarctica to name some but not all! Partick Knit and natter also sent out to many other organization in Glasgow and Scotland and sent more abroad than listed above and hope to capture their pretty impressive story in their own book! Meanwhile we’d like to share with you some of the “Operation Penguin” story that completed the mission of world domination in such a fun way. Pictured here are the group with the 30 hand knitted with love penguins that went on a just under 40,000 mile trip from Partick to Artic to Antarctica mapped out here on the world map, pin pointing their incredible journey. Not only did the knitted penguins go all that way, they also were auctioned off and raised a flipper clapping $5000 for Whale and Penguin conservation. Amazing group of women, with an amazing story to be told, great fun, very talented, sharing their skills and life stories with each other and having so much fun along they way. Who knew how far that one person wanting to learn how to knit and another person wanting to teach how to knit, would reach. Want to learn how to knit or crocket? Come along and join in only £3 a class for tea, chat and tuition! The knit and natter group was part of the Connects2Project that was funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. They now are self led and are more than happy to welcome new members. Also open to donations of wool and look out for their fundraising afternoon where they sell their wares! And who knows where their next few creative years will take them! Good Job Partick Knit and natter!! So well done all involved! 😊
