We redesign an educational robot for enhanced student learning experience
Revolutionizing the Curio platform for a more engaging, effective, and hands-on learning experience in programming, AI, and IoT.
Our redesigned tank-like Curio robot offers superior speed, maneuverability, and a panoramic field of view, thanks to a rotatable top with an adjustable phone mount.
Interactive and tangible learning, enhanced user experience, exposure to real-world tech applications, collaborative environment, and a springboard for creativity and innovation.
The Curio robot consists of basic components - two motors, wheels, a battery, a control board, and a wooden frame and is meant to be low cost to be affordable by schools and students alike.
However, the platform is limited by these factors:
1) Robot Speed
2) Design Confusion, not knowing which way is front.
With another development kit, called Smartibot, the team is to explore the various possible ways to improve the design of the Curio bot in order to address the limitations stated above while retaining its low cost and its usibility by schools and students to enhance learning processes.
With the resources provided, the Team kicks starts the brainstorm process to reach the final solution!
The Smartibot Development Kit provided to the team was an essential component that helped the team understand the potential of robotics and IoT in education. Through exploring and experimenting with the Smartibot, we have identified limitation and the possibilities that we could employ in our final solution of this project.
The Curio Bot, a low-cost educational robot, was our primary canvas for innovation. By interacting with the Curio physically, we developed a deeper understanding of its strengths and limitaions. This critical assessment of its design and functionality laid the foundations of the rework of the platform
With the usage of software Autocad and the sketchbook, a flurry of ideas came to life, drawing and creating upon the versatility of the servos and cardboards provided for us. The tangibility of these materials fostered our creativity which allows us to model and test our concepts iteratively. This hands on approach was essential in bridging the gap between our ideas and the final design of our solution.
Head on to our Brainstorm processing page for more details in the steps we taken to get to our final solution!
